David Carey is the founder of Fitness Food HQ. David is a Kildare man with a keen sporting background, mainly in hurling & athletics. A fully qualified personal trainer & Sport Scientist from Dublin City University, David focused on exercise as an effective form of rehabilitation for cardiac, respiratory & obesity problems.
Throughout his years in university, it became apparent to him that there was a huge lack of knowledge about the importance of high-quality food in the public sphere. Eating on the go or while living a busy lifestyle proved challenging. David took it upon himself to research important health information; from athletes to everyday consumers, in order to assist them to live a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
He founded his first company at the age of 19 and has worked alongside some of the world’s largest health brands, sports nutrition companies and elite athletes. After working with top health brands in over twelve countries over the past seven years, it was decided that something new and fresh needed to be created.
It was made apparent during this time that the main stumbling block for people was that modern life is simply not always conducive to healthy eating. A well balanced diet demands hours of time to plan, prepare & cook meals and for the majority of people, that is not an option, and therefore, after 2 years of focus groups, data analysis and research & development into each and every product available, Fitness Food HQ was born.
Fitness Food HQ was created to ensure that the option to eat healthy was easier, more affordable and tastier than picking up a takeaway. Fast food with all the benefits and none of the guilt.
Sally Anne Burke is the executive chef here at Fitness Food HQ and hails from the city of the tribes (Galway, for all you Jack-eens)
Sal’s passion for cooking comes from her grandmother Mo, who trained at the famous Cathal Brugha Street culinary college. With 5 children of her own, Granny Mo was no stranger to having to create healthy and delicious treats for all types of tastes and all her secret family recipes have all been handed down to Sal.
Sal worked as a private caterer to pay for her business degree but eventually she succumbed to her real calling and studied culinary training at Ballymaloe.
After working her way up the ranks as head chef in many top restaurants around Ireland, Sal wanted to use her position to give back, by organizing a charity pop-up restaurant to raise money for Chernobyl.
Because of the success of this event, more opportunities arose and she was asked cater for a Netflix party for Jamie Dornan and was Scarlett Johansson’s private chef while she on her Xmas break in Ireland.
With her determination to show that healthy food and delicious food do not need to be mutually exclusive, it was fate that she should happen to cross paths with David who shared the same vision. The combination of their skills, knowledge and passion are as appetizing as the meals Fitness Food HQ prepares.
